Proving to be a good neighbour, a good disciple and a good person!

Proving to be a good neighbour, a good disciple and a good person!

On the 15th Sunday of Ordinary time (year C) we are confronted with a challenge. We are either to obey the voice of the Lord and choose right (obedience to God's Word). Alternately, and by default, we choose wrong (disobedience). Just as Moses lays out two pathways from which Israel must choose one, so also must we choose.

This choice of right or wrong is foremost about what is in our heart, i.e., what we most deeply desire. When we are selfish we choose the path away from God, towards self-indulgence, pride, isolation from others. Conversely, selfless people choose the path of humble self-abasement and the service of others, becoming open and loving to all, just like the good Samaritan.

One way in which we can fulfil Our Lords desire to be good neighbours to one another, is by joining the St Vincent de Paul Society.

St Vincent de Paul Society

The St Vincent de Paul Society has more than 40,000 members and volunteers, who work to assist people in need and combat social injustice across Australia. Internationally, the Society operates in 150 countries and has over 800,000 members.

Mission: The St Vincent de Paul Society is a lay Catholic organisation that aspires to live the gospel message by serving Christ in the poor with love, respect, justice, hope and joy, and by working to shape a more just and compassionate society.
