Twenty-eighth Sunday, C
Your faith has saved you!
Faith is again the theme of the Gospel, but this week it is linked to thanksgiving. Like the cured leper we are to come back to give thanks to God. And that’s exactly what the Eucharistic celebration is – our entering into the mystery of thanksgiving, Sacrifice, praise, and salvation.
Today is also the 102nd anniversary of the miracle of Fatima where for 10 minutes the sun appeared to "dance" in the sky, career towards the Earth, emit multi-coloured lights and completely dry the thousands of spectators – as well as the wet and muddy ground that had been previously soaked by heavy rain. This miracle was given as a sign of authenticity of the message of Fatima.
Our Lady has been coming to warn us for over 100 years. Fatima is central. The 1st secret was that people are dying because of sin and going to hell; the 2nd was about the conversion of communist Russia, WWII, and the need of our consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Regarding the 3rd secret, “Pope Benedict XVI explained ...that the interpretation of the third secret did not only refer to the attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II in Saint Peter's Square in 1981. He said that the third secret, "has a permanent and ongoing significance," and that, "its significance could even be extended to include the suffering the Church is going through today as a result of the recent reports of sexual abuse involving the clergy." Many believe his resignation in 2015 was pushback from homosexual Cardinals threatened by him who was wanting to respond to Our Lady’s call to repentance.
Dear brothers and sisters, today we are living the 3rd secret of Fatima. Pope Benedict, as Cardinal Ratzinger, stated that the message of Akita is essentially the same. Listen to what it says, and consider the present-day crisis in the Church:
"The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a way that one will see cardinals opposing cardinals, bishops against bishops. The priests who venerate me will be scorned and opposed by their confreres...churches and altars sacked; the Church will be full of those who accept compromises and the demon will press many priests and consecrated souls to leave the service of the Lord.
...As I told you, if men do not repent and better themselves, the Father will inflict a terrible punishment on all humanity. It will be a punishment greater than the deluge, such as one will never have seen before. Fire will fall from the sky and will wipe out a great part of humanity, the good as well as the bad, sparing neither priests nor faithful.”
This later message, and call to repentance, from Our Lady of Akita is similar to the previously given 3rd secret of Fatima which was to be revealed to the world in 1960. Instead John XXIII called the 2nd Vatican Council ignoring the request that the 3rd secret be disclosed in accordance with the wishes of the Virgin of Fatima, as Sister Lucy had testified.
So, what’s the big deal about the 3rd secret? It’s more detailed and explicit than Akita. Here are some unconfirmed takeaways. (A) No longer does order reign anywhere and Satan will reign over the highest places directing the course of events. Satan will succeed in infiltrating to the top of the Church. (B) For the Church a time of her greatest trial will come. Cardinals will oppose Cardinals; Bishops will oppose Bishops and Satan will march amid their ranks, and in Rome there will be changes. What is rotten will fall ...The Church will be darkened and the world deranged by terror. (C) A great war will break out ...Fire and smoke will fall from Heaven, the water of the oceans will become vapours and the foam will rise up flooding and sinking everything. Millions and millions of people will die by the hour and the survivors will envy the dead.
Can you better understand why I said last week that “Climate annihilationism mimics warnings of the annihilation of our souls and the possible annihilation of nations” (http://www.johnthebaptistmoora.com/346443107/6821784/posting/twenty-seventh-sunday-c)? As Greta says, people are dying. But it is faith, not reducing carbon emissions, that will save us.
In the Gospel we hear that our faith saves us. Fatima is both a message of Apostasy from the faith as foretold by St Paul (2 Thessalonians). But it is also a call back to the faith where much can be mitigated by our coming back to God as the leper did, to give thanks.
God has a plan. Be faithful, stand ready for our liberation is close at hand. By enduring the tribulation ahead, God is going to completely and radically renew his Church. As St Paul says, “We may be unfaithful, but He is always faithful, for He cannot disown his own self” (2 Timothy).
